Melting snow and more rain water seeping underground is likely to cause basement flooding this spring. If you've got a sump pump, it probably hasn't run for several months and could fail. One way to monitor sump pump performance and avoid basement floods is with a sump pump alarm and sensor.
The City of Toronto is offering homeowners 80% off the Sumpie sump pump alarm and predictive sensor through the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program. Owners of single-family, duplex and triplex residential homes in Toronto can take advantage of this subsidy to purchase the Sumpie sump pump sensor from Alert Labs.

While sump pumps are designed to protect basements from flooding and water damage, 11% of basement floods are due to failed sump pumps. Some of the causes of sump pump failure include lack of maintenance or power outages.
"The sump pump is one of the most important pieces of equipment in the home," said Tony Romanelli, president of RCC Waterproofing, Canada's largest waterproofing company. "Many homeowners don't consider the fact that at some point the sump pump will fail. Sumpie monitors the sump pit and sends alerts to your phone when the pit is at risk of overflowing or power is lost to the sump pump."
