Alert Labs Partners with RCC, Canada's Largest Waterproofing Company, to Prevent Water Damage

In a perfect world, the risk of a basement flood would fall to zero for every property owner who had a sump pump. The reality is that many people just don’t know if their sump pump will protect them from water damage during the next spring thaw or heavy rainfall. Enter the world’s first predictive sump pump sensor, Sumpie. Designed and manufactured by Alert Labs, Sumpie monitors and analyzes sump pump performance and water levels, and alerts property owners before water damage occurs.

With Sumpie now commercially available, Alert Labs is pleased to announce their partnership with RCC, Canada’s largest waterproofing company. Together, the companies will provide customers with the ability to easily protect their properties from water damage caused by sump pits overflowing or sump pump failure.

Sump pumps are essential for keeping basements free from water damage, but 11% of basement floods are caused by sump pumps that fail due to power outages, a lack of maintenance, or other mechanical failures. The average repair cost of a basement flood is $43,000 and this cost doesn’t factor in the wasted time and the emotional trauma experienced when irreplaceable items such as photos are lost to water damage.

“RCC has been helping customers deal with the aftermath of basement flooding for decades. People underestimate the damage water can do. When a basement floods, it takes a toll not just financially, but emotionally, too. We’re looking forward offering Sumpie to our customers and helping them avoid the heartache and financial loss caused by basement floods,” says Tony Romanelli, CEO of RCC.

One of its most appealing features is that anyone can install Sumpie in less than two minutes in both normal and sealed sump pits. In most cases, installation is as easy as (1) clipping Sumpie to the sump pump pipe, (2) plugging it in, and (3) registering the sensor with the Alert Labs’ Dashboard. The Dashboard, for computer and mobile, provides access to information and analytics for sump pump performance, current sump pit water level, and a historical record of all flood alerts.

“Extending our expertise in basement IoT technology, Sumpie extends our flood prevention team of sensors,” says George Tsintzouras, CEO of Alert Labs. "We've heard from thousands of commercial and residential property owners who want the peace of mind that comes from knowing their property is safe from floods 24/7. We’re excited about our partnership with RCC and look forward to providing affordable technology and services to their customers.”

  • High sump pit water level alerts
  • Imminent flood alerts
  • Pit overflow alerts
  • Sump pump mechanical health or failure alarms
  • Sump pump performance analytics
  • Power outage alerts
  • Battery backup
  • Cellular connection for always-on operation

Flood prevention solutions that rely on a WiFi network stop working when there is a power outage due to a storm, for example. That’s why Sumpie was designed to use a cellular connection with a backup battery to continue sending real-time alerts even when the power is out.

Sumpie is the latest product to join the Alert Labs team of smart building sensors. The Flowie water flow sensor and Floodie flood sensor have helped property owners save over 180 million liters in wasted water and avoid tens of thousands of dollars in water damage.
